She experienced partial symptom relief and continued taking the medication, accordingly. These techniques targeted feared stimuli, maladaptive beliefs, and stress reactivity, respectively. This case study was exempt from ethics review and approval, in line with the Baylor College of Medicine Human Research Protections Manual, including Institutional Review Board procedures. The data presented here were collected by the subject for their own interest and safety, and to monitor their progress over time. Here, in accordance with CARE (CAse REport) guidelines (31), we present the first real-world, longitudinal case study on

Electrophysiological effects of 5-MeO-DMT
In contrast to peripheral administration, intracerebroventricular injection of bufotenin in animals readily produces robust psychedelic-like behavioral effects similar to those of other serotonergic psychedelics like 5-MeO-DMT. An initial report found that 5-MeO-DMT reduced power in the theta frequency range (5–10 Hz) and increased slow wave activity while animals remained awake, suggesting a hybrid state with features of both waking and slow-wave sleep28. Furthermore, we observed a dose-dependent reduction in slow (20–50 Hz) and mid (50–100 Hz) gamma power, as well as in theta phase modulation, even after controlling for the effects of speed and theta power. Firstly, we replicated the effects of the injection of 5-MeO-DMT in animals wearing the oculometer (Supplementary Fig. 5), although the suppressing effects of the drug on theta-activity outlasted the effects on SWA in this cohort (Fig. 4c-e).

Neurobiologist Andrew Gallimore suggested in 2013 that while DMT might not have a modern neural function, it may have been an ancestral neuromodulator once secreted in psychedelic concentrations during REM sleep, a function now lost. Strassman noted similarities between self-reports of his DMT study participants' encounters with these "entities", and mythological descriptions of figures such as Ḥayyot haq-Qodesh in ancient religions, including both angels and demons. Cliff Pickover has also written about the "machine elf" experience, in the book Sex, Drugs, Einstein, & Elves. Entities perceived during DMT inebriation have been represented in diverse forms of psychedelic ar
DMT inhibited SERT-mediated serotonin uptake into platelets at an average concentration of 4.00 ± 0.70 μmol/L and VMAT2-mediated serotonin uptake at an average concentration of 93 ± 6.8 μmol/L. It has also been shown in vitro to be a substrate for the cell-surface serotonin transporter (SERT) expressed in human platelets, and the rat vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2), which was transiently expressed in fall armyworm Sf9 cells. Converging lines of evidence established activation of the σ1 receptor at concentrations of 50–100 μmol/
PVT and DSST were included in order to capture potential negative effects on cognition and did not show any impairment of cognitive function. Mean (SE) MADRS ratings in the Phase 1 and Phase 2 parts of the study are shown in Figure 3. In the Phase 2 part, applying the IDR, 7 out of 8 patients achieved a PE, whereby 6 patients achieved a PE after the second administration (6 mg + 12 mg), and one patient achieved a PE after the third administration (6 mg + 12 mg + 18 mg).

But by the time I was able to tag along on one of his foraging trips in October, he had moved to southern Poland, fearful for his and his family’s safety after a barrage of Russian missile attacks hit western Ukraine in late 2024. At the time, Hordubei was living south of the city of Lviv in western Ukraine, on the edge of the Carpathian Mountains. I wanted to understand what it meant to look for amanita in the wild, not just as an economic activity, but as a cultural practice. It may have started that way, as a source of supplemental food during times of scarcity and famine.
