The story of The Legend of Zelda begins long before the events of Skyward Sword , which serves as a prequel to the entire Zelda series. Traditional Zelda dungeons in Tears of the Kingdom would address one of the criticisms of Breath of the Wild , where the puzzles being spread out and the presence of the Divine Beasts left some players missing the dungeons from previous Zelda games. Dungeons generally have Link complete them so that he obtains a reward at the end that helps him with his quest to save Hyrule, like awakening the Sages in Ocarina of Time and collecting their medallions. The image of seven tears in the TOTK trailer could imply that Link will be heading into more traditional Zelda dungeons to gather those te


The quests are the primary objectives in BOTW , and it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to complete all of them. Half of the challenge is simply finding them all, since there's very little indication of who has a quest to give and who doesn't, and quest givers can be found in the most random and unexpected of places. Even after players manage to find all the quests, they still will need to put in quite a bit of legwork in order to complete them. Some particularly difficult quests involve gathering extremely rare ingredients, or facing off against enemies that can easily vanquish them if they're unprepared, or fulfilling incredibly specific or rare conditions. One possibility for Tears of the Kingdom 's meaning is that Zelda, the princess of Hyrule, will die. After the events of the first game, Zelda presumably is hard at work rebuilding BOTW 's ruin of Hyrule, helping the people who inhabit it as she wished to in the silent video Game protagonists's final cutscene. As such, it stands to reason that she would be beloved throughout the land. Tears of the Kingdom could refer to Hyrule mourning her after her death. Since Zelda falls into a crevice in the E3 2021 trailer and has not appeared in any footage outside the cave where she and Link find the withered mummy, this is a terrifyingly real possibil


In the trailers for Tears of the Kingdom , Link and Zelda find Ganondorf sealed away underground. Additionally, chunks of land are launched into the sky by Malice. Both of these concepts suggest that Tears of the Kingdom may allow Link and Zelda to explore below ground, spelunking into long-forgotten caverns and unearthing ancient ruins. Some sparser areas of Breath of the Wild ’s map may be populated by these new ruins, like Arbiter’s Grounds in the Gerudo Wasteland. In Breath of the Wild they are barely visible above the sand, but if they rose up they could form a new dungeon recalling Twilight Princess ’ own Arbiter’s Grou


The biggest mystery, however, is the true identity of Breath of the Wild 's Zonai , an ancient tribe of magic wielders. Structures such as the three labyrinths and the Faron region’s stonework were created by the Zonai, easily identifiable by their Aztec-like designs prominently featuring dragon heads.
