What is heart failure?

As people age, the risk of heart failure increases. While there is no cure for heart failure, there are treatments available that can improve your health and extend your life. In this blog post, we will provide you with a guide to know when you are in an advanced stage of heart failure and what you should do about it.

The Different Types of Heart Failure

Heart failure is a condition where the heart cannot pump enough blood to meet the body's needs. There are three main types of heart failure: dilated, hypertrophic, and restrictive. Each type has its own set of symptoms and signs.

Dilated heart failure is the most common type and is caused by decreased function in one or more small hearts valves. This can lead to reduced flow of blood through the heart and reduced oxygen delivery to the rest of the body. Symptoms may include fatigue, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, chest pain, and a weakening pulse.

Hypertrophic heart failure occurs when there is too much muscle mass in the chambers of the heart (the left and right ventricles). This can make it difficult for the heart to pump blood efficiently, leading to symptoms similar to those seen in dilated heart failure, including fatigue, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, chest pain, and a weakening pulse.

Restrictive heart failure is caused by changes in how well muscles contract (diastolic dysfunction), which can reduce cardiac output (the amount of blood pumped by the heart each minute). Symptoms may include difficulty breathing (respiratory distress syndrome), abdominal pain after eating or exercise (dyspepsia), constipation or diarrhea, weakness or numbness in your arms or legs (paresthesias), confusion or memory problems (amnesia), sudden weight gain or loss (fluid retention), streaking hair growth

Symptoms of Advanced Heart Failure

Heart failure is a condition in which the heart cannot pump enough blood to meet the body's needs. Symptoms of advanced heart failure may include shortness of breath, Kategorien fatigue, poor physical conditioning, an irregular heartbeat, and swelling in the legs or feet. If left untreated, advanced heart failure can lead to death.

How to Diagnose Heart Failure

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, it is time to get checked out:

-Chest pain or discomfort that does not go away with rest
-Shortness of breath
-Fatigue or weakness that lasts more than a few days
-A rapid or irregular heartbeat (heartbeat faster than normal or one that does not always stay in a regular rhythm)
...There are several ways to diagnose heart failure. However, the most common way is by carrying out an exercise test. During this test, your doctor will ask you to complete a set amount of physical activity and then measure how much oxygen you use during the process. If your heart failure is severe, your doctor may also request other tests such as an echocardiogram (a picture of your heart) or a blood pressure measurement.

There are a few signs and symptoms to watch for when diagnosing heart failure. The most common symptom is shortness of breath. The other key symptoms are fatigue, chest pain, rapid breathing, swelling around the neck or shoulders, and changes in blood pressure. If you experience any of these symptoms, it is important to see a doctor as soon as possible.

Another way to determine if someone has heart failure is by measuring their ejection fraction (EF). EF is the percentage of cardiac muscle that can pump blood out of the heart. A normal EF range is typically between 50-70%. If a person’s EF falls below 30%, they have heart failure. However, many people with mild heart failure may not have any noticeable symptoms and their EF may only be lower than 50%. In order to accurately measure an individual’s EF, a stress test must be performed.

If you think you may have heart failure, it is important to see a doctor for an evaluation.
