Editor’s Choice: Jake's Top 10 Games of 2015

Not only have we gotten two Avengers movies in the last five years, The CW has aired yearly crossover events since 2014, and Netflix even debuted their own small screen superhero team-up this summer with The Defenders . Ultimately, the team-up aspect of Justice League is something comic book TV and film fans have seen many times now, though not necessarily with these exact characters. While there's undoubtedly excitement each time a team-up event occurs in either film or TV, Justice League simply using different heroes in a story we've seen before - even though they're unquestionably some of the most beloved and storied heroes in comics - isn't quite enough anym


The creative teams behind The CW's DC shows have continually pushed themselves to exceed expectations each year and do something they've never done before - and something no other superhero TV series has done before. The result is that each Arrowverse crossover feels fresh and new. While there are undoubtedly certain connective threads that weave through each event, the different villains and storylines push the envelopes of each series in the shared TV universe. The Arrowverse shows can sometimes get stuck in ruts, with the shows arguably reusing similar villains or storylines, even with only a handful of seasons under their belts in some cases. But, the crossovers continue to evolve and force The CW's DC lineup to mix things up in a way that feels fresh, while not messing with the core DNA of any ser


"Time is money, friend." You've played Monopoly before but never like this. Monopoly: World of Warcraft Collector's Edition features a custom game board designed by Blizzard, and all of your favorite zones from Azeroth are here for the taking. Faction capitals Stormwind and Orgrimmar take the traditional spots of Boardwalk and Park Place, and the player tokens were voted on by fans. That would be like the U.S. claiming it isn't a militarily focused nation, because they spend a relatively small percentage of its GDP on military. This overlooks the fact that the U.S. is perhaps the richest nation in the world, meaning that that small percentage is more than the next 30 or so developed countries combined. So how much money do free-to-play games make off micro-transactions? I don't know. But I know it's more than enough to stay in business, it's more than enough to make PopCap not even consider bringing Plants vs. Zombies 2 to any other platform besides mobile , and it's more than enough to entice several other games to go free-to-play, or at least to use micro-transactions.

Dota 2 is free to play with no exceptions. The only items you can purchase are purely cosmetic. This makes it so everyone can have an equal experience with the entire game without paying one dime. If you want, however, you can purchase things such as outfits, environmental effects, announcer packs, HUD skins, loadings screens and couriers (an animal in Dota 2 that will bring you your items after purchasing them). You can purchase a battlepoint booster, which will increase the rate at which you level up for a certain amount of time. However, your level has no effect on the game. Dota 2 isn't stingy with these either, as it gives you a random cosmetic item every time you level up.

Code Name S.T.E.A.M. is a remarkable MOBA Game updates for a couple of reasons. It’s a turn-based strategy MOBA game advanced tactics set in a steam punk past, the action is simple to understand and the storyline is unique. As a special agent, taking orders from the President of the United States is part of the job; especially if those orders are to eradicate swarms of alien armies. Combining characters from literary classics makes it an even more fantastical journey. It’s the kind of game you’d usually see on PC, which makes it being on the 3DS refreshing for fans of strategy games.

I saved the best for last on this list. While many folks pointed out Nintendo’s lack of original titles, Splatoon made a splatastic debut and made up for the last few decades.
